American Friends of Hand in Hand
Founded in 1999 by Lee Gordon (who also co-founded the Hand in Hand Center for Jewish-Arab Education in Israel), American Friends of Hand in Hand is an independent non-profit organization in the U.S. dedicated to advancing the cause of peace and reconciliation between Arabs and Jews through bilingual, multicultural Jewish-Arab education in Israel.
American Friends of Hand in Hand has played a major role in the growth of Israel's Hand in Hand program from 50 students in 1998 to more than 600 in 2005-06. During the most recent year, donors to American Friends of Hand in Hand contributed close to $1 million to support this important work. In 2004-05, contributions from AFHIH helped open a new Hand in Hand school in the Wadi Ara region of Israel.
American Friends of Hand in Hand offers numerous opportunities for people in the United States to become involved and make a meaningful contribution to the growth and success of Hand in Hand and its work in Israel. This contribution can be financial, through tax deductible gifts, and in other ways as well:
- Assisting in establishing local support chapters in cities around the country.
- Hosting meetings and events for Hand in Hand staff from Israel in your home community.
- Building awareness about the work of Hand in Hand by way of local newspapers and other media.
- Visiting one of Hand in Hand's schools while in Israel.
- Arranging to do volunteer work in Hand in Hand schools.
- Joining our mailing list to become acquainted with the work of Hand in Hand.
